Dr. Mary Gleason

Dr. Gleason is trained as a pediatrician and in child and adolescent psychiatry, and serves as the Robins Family Chair in Early Childhood Mental Health and Chief of Early Childhood Mental Health in the Department of Psychiatry at Boston Children’s Hospital.

In her clinical work, Dr. Gleason focuses on early childhood mental health care, especially when integrated into non-mental health settings—including pediatric practices—where children and families already spend time. In her academic work, she is interested in the early identification of childhood mental health disorders; she developed and validated the Early Childhood Screening Assessment, which has now been tested in five languages and cultures. She is also interested in examining effective, innovative approaches to mental health care access. She has worked closely with state public health leaders to develop federally funded programs that offer mental health consultation to pediatric clinicians, early interventionists, and perinatal healthcare clinicians.

Dr. Gleason is honored to hold national positions in the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and has worked closely with both organizations to promote best practices for young children. She is committed to resident education and has served as training director at Tulane and Brown Universities, as well as Eastern Virginia Medical School.
