No puedo recordar c\u00f3mo encontr\u00e9 este poema, o \u2014deber\u00eda decir\u2014 c\u00f3mo me encontr\u00f3 a m\u00ed. En ese momento (probablemente hace 6 o 7 a\u00f1os), estaba pensando mucho en el miedo, en lo com\u00fan que es en la experiencia de los beb\u00e9s, pero tambi\u00e9n en lo crucial que es que sea calmado y contenido. As\u00ed es como el ni\u00f1o aprende que incluso las experiencias m\u00e1s dif\u00edciles pueden sostenerse y regularse, primero en sus relaciones m\u00e1s cercanas. Y ah\u00ed, de repente, estaba el poema de Olds... expresando con palabras e im\u00e1genes tan hermosas justo lo que yo buscaba. Tanto la madre como el beb\u00e9 tienen miedo, brevemente, el ni\u00f1o de lo nuevo y desconocido, la madre de la fragilidad del beb\u00e9. Pero el beb\u00e9 descubre que est\u00e1 a salvo, y a salvo para explorar. Y la madre descubre que es m\u00e1s que \u2019suficiente\u2019, le ha regalado la calma y el descubrimiento. Estos momentos, de descubrir qui\u00e9nes podemos ser y qu\u00e9 podemos dar, son lo que deseamos para todos los ni\u00f1os y sus padres.     <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amo con un amor casi temeroso<\/p>\n\n\n\n

para recordar los primeros ba\u00f1os que le di \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n

nuestro segundo hijo, nuestro primer var\u00f3n \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coloqu\u00e9 el peque\u00f1o torso a lo largo<\/p>\n\n\n\n

mi antebrazo izquierdo, la nuca<\/p>\n\n\n\n

en el pliegue de mi codo, las caderas casi tan<\/p>\n\n\n\n

peque\u00f1o como las caderas de un charr\u00e1n m\u00ednimo<\/p>\n\n\n\n

contra mi mu\u00f1eca, el muslo sujeto con poca fuerza<\/p>\n\n\n\n

en el bucle del pulgar y el \u00edndice,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

el cartel que significa exactamente correcto. Lo enjabonar\u00eda,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

los pies largos, violetas y fr\u00edos,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

el escroto se arrug\u00f3 como una concha de caracol marino ondulada<\/p>\n\n\n\n

tan nuevo que a\u00fan era flexible, el cofre,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

las manos, las clav\u00edculas, la garganta, la enc\u00eda<\/p>\n\n\n\n

caspa del cuero cabelludo. Cuando lo enjabonaba demasiado, \u00e9l<\/p>\n\n\n\n

deslizarse en mi agarre como un brazo lleno de mantequilla<\/p>\n\n\n\n

fideos, pero lo sostendr\u00eda no muy apretado,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sent\u00eda que yo era buena para \u00e9l,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le hablar\u00eda de su maravilloso cuerpo<\/p>\n\n\n\n

y el maravilloso jab\u00f3n, y \u00e9l me mirar\u00eda,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

de una semana de vida, sus ojos a\u00fan abiertos<\/p>\n\n\n\n

y aprensivo. Me encanta esa \u00e9poca<\/p>\n\n\n\n

cuando les canturreas y canturreas, puedes ver<\/p>\n\n\n\n

la calma entrando lentamente en ellos, puedes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

s\u00edguelo sintiendo en tu mano apretada,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

la peque\u00f1a columna relaj\u00e1ndose contra<\/p>\n\n\n\n

el m\u00fasculo de tu antebrazo, sientes el miedo<\/p>\n\n\n\n

dejando atr\u00e1s sus cuerpos, \u00e9l yac\u00eda en el azul<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ba\u00f1era de pl\u00e1stico ovalada para beb\u00e9 y<\/p>\n\n\n\n

me mir\u00f3 con asombro y comenz\u00f3 a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

mover sus extremidades sedosas a voluntad en el agua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
