Una reflexi\u00f3n sobre el poema \u201cNight Feed\u201d, de Eavan Boland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El poema \u201cNight Feed\u201d se public\u00f3 como parte de un poemario que tambi\u00e9n lleva por t\u00edtulo Toma nocturna <\/em>por la reconocida poetisa irlandesa Eavan Boland en 1982. Poetisa l\u00edrica y feminista, los temas de Boland sobre el amor, la maternidad, la condici\u00f3n de mujer, las relaciones y la identidad nacional se encuentran entre los temas revisitados a lo largo de la obra de su vida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Descubr\u00ed por primera vez el poema alg\u00fan tiempo despu\u00e9s de que mis propios hijos fueran beb\u00e9s, y tras enterarme de la muerte de la poetisa en 2020. Cuando le\u00ed el poema, me conmovieron profundamente las palabras y las im\u00e1genes que evocaban recuerdos personales de momentos en los que, mientras un beb\u00e9 se despertaba del sue\u00f1o, me llamaba desde el m\u00edo para ser sostenido, reconfortado, alimentado y calmado. Boland captura maravillosamente el asombro que puede transfigurar estos momentos, sucesos cotidianos que sirven para asegurar todas nuestras existencias, ya sea como infante o como progenitor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El poema ilustra de manera hermosa y profunda la devoci\u00f3n ordinaria de la madre hacia su beb\u00e9. El escenario, una guarder\u00eda al amanecer, se vuelve casi m\u00e1gico, la hora en que la luz comienza a iluminar el mundo. Para m\u00ed, esto hace eco de la experiencia del nacimiento de un beb\u00e9, cuando el mundo mismo se renueva con la llegada de una nueva persona. Esto se destaca nuevamente m\u00e1s tarde en el poema cuando el beb\u00e9, despu\u00e9s de haber sido alimentado, abre los ojos, \u201cdel color del nacimiento y ofendidos\u201d. Para m\u00ed, esto significa que desde el momento del nacimiento, lidiamos con principios y fines, reuniones y despedidas, uni\u00f3n y separaci\u00f3n. La conexi\u00f3n entre la madre y el beb\u00e9 durante la toma es motivo de asombro y de car\u00e1cter \u2018sacramental\u2019. Patricia Boyle Haberstroh ha descrito c\u00f3mo los \u2018momentos compartidos\u2019 de Boland \u2018santifican un interior ordinario y el valor de la maternidad\u2019. Este tema de las experiencias ordinarias y cotidianas en las vidas de las mujeres es algo que Boland, a trav\u00e9s de su experiencia de la maternidad y la feminidad, intent\u00f3 comunicar en su poes\u00eda. Estos momentos ordinarios se vuelven eternos, \u00abdefiniendo la verdad sobre las vidas de las mujeres\u00bb (Haberstroh, P. B, 1993).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El poema encarna un breve momento, pero captura el movimiento del tiempo. Hay una sensaci\u00f3n de paso del tiempo, de futura separaci\u00f3n, de la cercan\u00eda actual con el beb\u00e9 hecha a\u00fan m\u00e1s preciosa. El paso del tiempo se describe conmovedoresamente como la \u2018larga ca\u00edda en desgracia\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No se elude la mezcla de sentimientos que evoca en la madre cuando esta saluda a su beb\u00e9 para \u2019ahogar nuestras penas\u2019. Mientras alza y siente al beb\u00e9 en sus brazos, experimenta una sensaci\u00f3n de emoci\u00f3n intensificada y se convierte en \u2018lo mejor que puedo ser\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La naturaleza tambi\u00e9n es fundamental en el poema; el amanecer crea un mundo de vida donde las aves despiertan, las margaritas se abren y \u2018el agua de lluvia mercurial \/ hace un espejo para los gorriones\u2019. Esta imagen tambi\u00e9n resalta para m\u00ed un tema de reflexi\u00f3n y la mirada, c\u00f3mo la mirada de la madre recibe la del lactante y, como describi\u00f3 Winnicott, la propia imagen del infante se refleja en la mirada de su madre, desarroll\u00e1ndose as\u00ed la relaci\u00f3n. Boland volvi\u00f3 a utilizar la imagen del espejo en su poes\u00eda, lo que subraya la importancia de este proceso reflexivo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La rutina cotidiana de la vida es sustentadora, de recoger, sostener, alimentar, volver a dormir. Estas son actividades que a menudo se dan por sentadas en la sociedad y que, sin embargo, aseguran nuestra supervivencia. La guarder\u00eda se convierte en un reflejo interior del mundo, donde la \u2018querida vida\u2019 \u2018se aferra\u2019. Boland valora la actividad cotidiana de las madres en el mantenimiento de la vida. Estos temas se repiten en la obra de Boland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En la misma colecci\u00f3n de poes\u00eda, un poema posterior, \u201cFruit on a Straight-Sided Tray\u201d, muestra c\u00f3mo el bodeg\u00f3n art\u00edstico refleja la relaci\u00f3n madre-hijo, y el \u2018espacio entre\u2019 los objetos del bodeg\u00f3n reunidos resulta tan revelador como los propios objetos. El poema, Night Feed, para m\u00ed, ilumina los momentos ordinarios y cotidianos entre una madre y su beb\u00e9, los cuales son profundos y dan vida, honrando el tiempo que un beb\u00e9 necesita y del que depende para recibir esta nutrici\u00f3n, una nutrici\u00f3n que se sostiene a lo largo de toda la vida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Dra. Aoife Twohig es psiquiatra infanto-juvenil especializada en psiquiatr\u00eda de enlace pedi\u00e1trico en Children\u2019s Health Ireland, en Temple St., Dubl\u00edn.
