Despu\u00e9s de la universidad trabaj\u00f3 en Argelia con el Servicio Voluntario en el Extranjero (el equivalente brit\u00e1nico del Cuerpo de Paz) ense\u00f1ando ingl\u00e9s como lengua extranjera. Regres\u00f3 para doctorarse (Ph.D.) en la Universidad de Edimburgo en Escocia y luego fue a EE. UU. como becaria postdoctoral en el Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n sobre la Afasia en el Centro M\u00e9dico de VA de Boston. Posteriormente se traslad\u00f3 al Hospital Infantil de Boston, donde actualmente es Neuropsic\u00f3loga Asistente Senior en el Departamento de Psiquiatr\u00eda y miembro del cuerpo docente del Centro de Neuropsicolog\u00eda. Tambi\u00e9n es profesora asociada de Psicolog\u00eda en Psiquiatr\u00eda en la Escuela de Medicina de Harvard y psic\u00f3loga cl\u00ednica con licencia en Massachusetts. En 2004 dej\u00f3 el cargo de directora del Programa de Neuropsicolog\u00eda en el Hospital Infantil y desde entonces ha dividido su tiempo entre responsabilidades de ense\u00f1anza e investigaci\u00f3n en el Hospital Infantil de Boston, trabajo profesional con ni\u00f1os en la Rep\u00fablica de Trinidad y Tobago en las Indias Occidentales, y consultor\u00eda cl\u00ednica y docencia internacional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Junto con su colega, la Dra. Deborah Waber, la Dra. Bernstein sent las bases de un modelo cl\u00ednico enmarcado neuropsicol\u00f3gicamente para la evaluaci\u00f3n del ni\u00f1o en desarrollo y ha explorado y ampliado las implicaciones de este modelo en su trabajo tanto con ni\u00f1os y familias como con estudiantes de posgrado en neuropsiculog\u00eda en los a\u00f1os posteriores. Su principal identidad profesional ha sido y sigue siendo la de una docente cl\u00ednica. Durante (ahora) varias d\u00e9cadas, ha tenido el privilegio de contribuir al desarrollo de m\u00e1s de una generaci\u00f3n de neuropsic\u00f3logos, obteniendo un considerable disfrute personal y profesional de su reconocimiento a su trabajo y de sus muchos \u00e9xitos en nuestra disciplina en r\u00e1pido crecimiento.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En Trinidad y Tobago, la Dra. Bernstein trabaja con The Cotton Tree Foundation y con el Centro de Educaci\u00f3n Especial Immortelle, donde ha desarrollado, junto con colegas locales y de EE. UU., un Programa de Aprendizaje y Servicio que brinda servicios psicol\u00f3gicos a ni\u00f1os y familias. Ha participado en la formaci\u00f3n de estudiantes de maestr\u00eda en psicolog\u00eda en la Universidad de las Indias Occidentales en St. Augustine y ofrece desarrollo profesional continuo para psic\u00f3logos locales al inicio de sus carreras. Ha impartido talleres y presentaciones para educar tanto a grupos profesionales como legos sobre neuropsicolog\u00eda, evaluaci\u00f3n neuropsicol\u00f3gica y desarrollo neuroconductual, con \u00e9nfasis en la educaci\u00f3n de la primera infancia.
