Los humanos tienen el repertorio emocional m\u00e1s complejo del reino animal, pero se necesita mucho tiempo para alcanzar el pleno funcionamiento adulto. La naturaleza del desarrollo del cerebro emocional maximiza sus posibilidades de ser influenciado por los entornos sociales. Las variaciones en las experiencias tempranas t\u00edpicas de la especie, como el cuidado parental, revelan los profundos efectos de tales influencias en el desarrollo de los neurocircuitos implicados en el aprendizaje y la regulaci\u00f3n afectiva (p. ej., am\u00edgdala, hipocampo, corteza prefrontal medial). Nim Tottenham, PhD es directora y profesora de psicolog\u00eda en la Universidad de Columbia y directora del Laboratorio de Neurociencia Afectiva del Desarrollo.
