El desarrollo de las teor\u00edas del apego y de los modelos de intervenci\u00f3n en salud mental infantil se ha basado principalmente en muestras procedentes de contextos occidentales, educados, industrializados, ricos y democr\u00e1ticos (WEIRD). Estas familias representan menos del 10% de la poblaci\u00f3n mundial y, seg\u00fan los datos, constituyen casos at\u00edpicos a escala mundial en lo que respecta a sus objetivos y pr\u00e1cticas de crianza. A pesar de la gran diversidad cultural, los padres de todo el \u00abMundo Mayoritario\u00bb cr\u00edan a sus hijos de forma relativamente similar entre s\u00ed, en comparaci\u00f3n con los padres de Am\u00e9rica del Norte y Europa Occidental. A ra\u00edz de la creciente inversi\u00f3n en intervenciones de salud mental infantil en el \u00abMundo Mayoritario\u00bb, existe una necesidad y un imperativo \u00e9tico de cuestionar la relevancia contextual de las intervenciones importadas. La Dra. Nicki Dawson es una m\u00e9dica investigadora y psic\u00f3loga consejera de Johannesburgo, Sud\u00e1frica. Es la responsable de Desarrollo e Investigaci\u00f3n y Capacitaci\u00f3n en el Ububele Educational and Psychotherapy Trust, un centro de capacitaci\u00f3n y servicio de salud mental sin fines de lucro en Johannesburgo, Sud\u00e1frica, donde su trabajo se centra en el apego, la salud mental infantil, la crianza y el desarrollo de la primera infancia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicki obtuvo su doctorado en psicolog\u00eda en la Universidad de Witwatersrand.
